 "Poor Product" 2009-09-11
By J. Williams (Lubbock TX)
I bought two of these shavers from Haband. The first was $14.99 and the second $7.50. I had just seen it at Sears for $59.99 so I thought I made a good buy. I was wrong!

I followed the instructions and charged each shaver for 24 hours before the first use. However, neither one will remain charged for more than 10 minutes of shaving time. They are supposed to have 55 minutes when fully charged. They work fine when plugged in but that can be very inconvenient. It is very frustrating to have two different shavers suddenly stop on the third shave after getting a full charge. Nobody else has mentioned this problem so maybe I am just very unlucky, or maybe Haband got all of Remington's rejected shavers. The shave is fine, except for the neck, but that is standard for all electric shavers. I am now charging the razors two or three times per week as that is the only was I can use them uncorded. I will continue to use them only until I run out of replacement heads. Then I will get a GOOD electric shaver.

Now let's talk about the cost of the replacement heads. The shaver comes with an order form and a 1-800 order line. A one-pack is $5.99 and a two-pack is $10.99. Shipping is $5.95 no matter how many you order so it would be best to order several at once. I also saw them on the shelf at Sears for $10.99 for a two-pack. They are also available on EBAY for various prices from $3-$6 per head, not counting shipping costs.

I cannot recommend this electric shaver. The price may look good but having TWO shavers not able to keep their charge has completely soured me on it.

"Decent shave, but really loud." 2009-05-07

This model has been discontinued by Remington, so it's now available at a very low price. While I think it was way overpriced for what you got at the original price, at the current steeply discounted price it is well worth a look. (Some brick and mortar stores are selling it below ten bucks)

It gives a traditional Remington close shave. Remington foils are not nearly as gentle as a Braun or a Panasonic, but you're rewarded with a very close shave. If you've never used a Remington foil before, be prepared for a few days where your face may feel a bit sensitive.

The head (which contains the foil and cutters) is designed to be disposable. Keep in mind that the indicator light that comes on is based on a simple counter - you can certainly keep using the razor after the indicator light comes on. To save money, you can just keep shaving with the same head until you feel that you're not getting as close or as comfortable a shave as you did at first. I've found you can easily get 60 shaves per head without any problem.

The shaver itself is somewhat cheaply built - lots of plastic and no where near as solid as a higher end shaver. But, you're not paying the higher end price either! The biggest drawback is that it is loud. Really loud. We're talking leaf blower loud (OK, bit of an exaggeration, but this is not the shaver to use if someone else is sleeping close by).

I use it as my spare shaver, and my take-to-the-gym shaver. Just toss it into a bag and not have to worry about cleaning it ever.

Remington is not known for long-term durability. Don't stock up too much on replacement heads since you probably won't get years of service out of this. On the plus side, Remington has great customer service and will send you a new shaver if yours breaks.

At this price it's worth buying two just for the spare heads (each razor comes with two heads). You won't be wow'd with the quality of the shaver, but it provides a good, close shave without spending much money.

 "Nice idea poorly executed." 2008-05-14
By atrac (Los Angeles, CA)
While I think the idea sounds great in concept, there are a few issues with this shaver that prevent me from giving it a positive review.

First of all, the razor does not shave as well as other ones that I have previously used. I find that I have to go over the same area twice as many times as I would have to with other brands (even other Remington's that I have used). It does end up doing the job, but I waste more time on a good shave with this model.

Secondly, the foil seems to leave a coating of dirt on my skin after use. I can see this result because I always use an astringent with a cotton square to wipe my face down after a shave. The cotton square is literally black after I use this razor. I even tried my old electric razor for a few days to see if it would be just as dirty -- it was not. I can only guess that it has something to do with the nanosilver technology used for the foil, but the way it is represented as "preventing bacteria growth" I would have expected the cotton square to be less dirty.

One aspect I don't understand about the replaceable razor head is you never have to clean it, just throw it away when you it fills up. I know on previous electric razors I have used, when I clean them after every shave, I have to run a small brush between the blades because hair easily builds up in that area (preventing a closer shave). Since you can't get inside to clean this, how is this build-up between the tiny blades prevented?

At any rate, it's not a perfect razor. If you don't mind a longer shave and a dirty face, the idea of changing the razor head every month may just appeal to you.
